Royston Jones in his youth with the FWA

The Eye have stymied the original plans to start a new Welsh independence party by a retired businessman who writes a right wing blog, after we revealed his links  to the paramilitary group Free Wales Army (FWA) and he posted a picture of their leader holding a gun.

We can now reveal the first hotel where Royston Jones planned to launch the party has cancelled his reservation for a large room, following our disclosure.

Mr Jones has blamed our Editor, Phil Parry.

He wrote on his blog ‘Jac O’ the North’:  He (another critic of the plan) used the lies peddled by Phil Parry on The Eye”.

Hotel – ‘concerns’

Mr Jones had booked a room for 50-60 people at the Belle Vue Royal Hotel, on Marine Terrace, Aberystwyth for 1pm, November 4 for the event.

On ‘Jac O’ the North’ he set out the party’s principles: “Anyone who thinks Wales needs another socialist party, or a bigger third sector, or more Englandandwales organisations, really has nothing to contribute”.

FWA supporters promised a campaign for Welsh independence

But the hotel sent a message to Mr Jones notifying him:  “With regards to … concerns, we have now cancelled your meeting room with full refund of payment”.

He then advertised on his blog a new venue, with the words: I am delighted to announce that a meeting has been arranged for November 18th in Aberystwyth to discuss the formation of a new political party to defend Wales’ interests”.

Our Editor was accused of ‘lying’ and ‘twisting’ facts

Mr Jones may have blamed our Editor, but he has used ‘lies’ before in describing him.

In the past he has called Mr Parry “a lying bastard” and dubbed him “vermin”.

Mr Jones said on the ‘Jac o’ the North’ blog:  “That lying bastard Phil Parry never misses an opportunity to twist or invent ‘facts’”.

North Wales Police investigated

He added:  “My blog has NEVER been investigated by the police (we were contacted by the officer conducting the inquiry) and so I challenge him to provide evidence for the allegations he makes.”

Mr Jones continued:  “He’s a mouthpiece for the Labour Party (many of The Eye articles have been about the misdeeds of the Labour Welsh Government and its leader in Wales, First Minister Carwyn Jones) and often ‘trails’ stories for Llais y Sais (we never write ‘trails’ for other organisations).

Astonishingly, and inconsistently, he appeared to accept the ‘invented’ facts, tweeting last night:  “i put a picture of Cayo Evans on my blog and PhilParry2 … ‘exposed’ my 50 plus years’ support for the FWA”.

Cayo Evans – as seen on the ‘Jac O’ the North’ blog

Mr Jones seems to object to the fact that we have reported how he described the leader of the FWA, Cayo Evans, as a “comrade” as well as “friend”, and how he published the picture on ‘Jac O’ the North’ of him pointing a gun at the camera as others look on laughing.

Yet the ‘inventions’ we have reported, were from pictures on his own blog – including the one of Cayo Evans holding the pistol.

Meanwhile many of our readers supported our stance, and backed up the so-called ‘lies’.

Dennis Coslett – another leading member of the FWA, as shown on the ‘Jac O’ the North’ blog

One commentator on The Eye said:  “The man (Royston Jones) and the knuckle draggers that follow him are fascistic ethnic nationalists end of and don’t really deserve the air of publicity except to say that wales has an alarmingly high number (of) far right supremacists who have convinced themselves they have oppressed status so think its okay to demonise ordinary people like retirees from English cities who’ve moved within their own nation state”.

The FWA was a paramilitary Welsh nationalist organisation, formed at Lampeter, Ceredigion, in 1963.

Extreme Welsh nationalism was feared by political leaders in the 1960s

Its objective was to establish an independent Welsh republic.

It has been reported that the Official IRA (OIRA) had given or sold most of its weapons to the FWA as part of its turn away from political violence, in the 1960s.

But Mr Jones has praised the leader of the FWA.

The police have offered protection

The vitriolic writings on ‘Jac O’ the North’ have proved controversial, and one reader told us:  “I feel like taking a bath after I read his stuff”.

‘Jac o’ the North’ targets people Mr Jones believes are not truly Welsh – his blog has been investigated by the police, and some of his victims have been given around-the-clock protection.

Some of Royston Jones’ victims do not want to be identified

One commentator opposed to Mr Jones, Jacques Protic, was told after publication on the blog that he should be put down “like a mad dog” and his car tyres were slashed.

One of the telephone callers to his home said: “I will do your fucking head in”.

This threatening message was on speakers and upset his 10 year old daughter who was listening.

Threatening phone calls were made after publication on the ‘Jac O’ the North’ blog

Yet Mr Protic, whose home town is Chester but who now lives somewhere in North Wales, was deeply alarmed by the standard of investigation undertaken by the police, which followed the published comments, and he launched an official complaint.

Mr Jones had written, in the first statements about him on his blog:  ”I was hoping to avoid this, but it has to be said – Protic is a Serb” (Mr Protic’s father worked for the Yugoslavian National Bank and he left the country when he was a teenager).

Mr Parry told us:  “Unfortunately in 34 years in journalism, I’ve come across a lot of tinpot bullies.

“The best thing is always to stand up to them”.

It appears the first Aberystwyth hotel where Mr Jones planned to launch his new Welsh independence party has also now stood up to him after we exposed his links to a paramilitary organisation.

  1. Publicity for what? Royston will have to retire as he says himself after his remarks on Jake Berry MP were deleted from Facebook. He’s such a loose cannon he had to be ditched by ‘Gwlad, Gwlad!’, the party he founded himself, and the candidates still lost their deposits.

  2. This is the third time in just over a fortnight you have run your hatchet jobs on Royston Jones. Articles two and three were for the main part straight lifts from your first, so it either looks like you are struggling to find new information with which to try and smear his name, or have you developed an unhealthy obsession with the man?

If you are not careful people might assume you are a tad jealous of the man’s success. After all, Jac o’ the North regularly runs searching and original articles about Welsh affairs that I have then seen picked up by the mass media (your friend Shipton included), not just in Wales but even the national press. Respondents to his articles regularly number in the very many dozens. It is not unusual to see over one hundred replies. “The Eye” by comparison appears sorely neglected. Have you hit double figures for a single piece yet? Perhaps you have many shy readers or could it be you don’t have many at all?

It’s a pity you didn’t write in a positive vein about the current initiative for a new political party in Wales, but there again, if you are so poor a journalist as to regurgitate the same story three times in a fortnight, perhaps it’s just as well.

Incidentally I am proud to be a regular reader of Jac o’ the North’s site, just so we are clear that I am one of the people you seem happy to see described as a “knuckledragger”.

    • Poor guy, jealous ignorant and looking desperately to try and demonize Royston.
Wow! FWA! That’s so in the past, we’ve all moved on since then, I wonder how and why did the FWA started.

oh nooo! You forgot to have pictures of Owain Glyndwr and other Welsh nationalists who fought against the anglicisation of Wales.
      Poor Britnat…

      • Royston has gone some way to demonise himself. He expects us to have a positive attitude to his negativity does he? After he has made up bizarre conspiracy theories about all sorts of unoffending people?

He thinks he can behave like a dick, and the targeted people have a duty to be nice to him? He is what Jews call a ‘robbed Cossack.’ He has ‘obsessively’ pursued Stephen Kinnock, Helen Mary Jones, Mormons, Glen Jackson, and indirectly Protic’s little girl.

He has never shown any remorse. He is not worthy of your support.

  3. ‘I will do your fucking head in’ ?????
    Boohoo ?
Keep up the shitty work boys! Any publicity is good!

    M.A.C, F.W.A, M.G have never gone away ?
