Developers in Wales have welcomed images for a multi-million pound revamp of the country’s busiest railway station, with one saying the plans will be a huge boost for Cardiff and the region.

One Cardiff-based property expert declared to The Eye: “This is BIG. it will make Cardiff a world class location, because a lot of people come here by train, and for many the city is the gateway to Wales”.
Another developer proclaimed: “These plans look great and just what the area needs”.
The developers preferred to remain anonymous, so they could appear independent and not simply making the positive comments to increase business.

As well as boosting the image of the city, the £140 million scheme for Cardiff Central station is designed to alleviate overcrowding and improve accessibility for those with reduced mobility.
The plans include a larger concourse to increase capacity and improve passenger access through additional gate-lines.

They also aim to modernise the station while still complimenting the history and heritage of the building.
Should they be approved, the money for the enormous enhancements will be provided by the Department for Transport (DfT), Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) and the Welsh Government (WG).
Transport for Wales (TfW) said the proposals are part of wider investment into “transforming transport in central Cardiff” – including ambitious regeneration plans.

Work is currently underway to deliver the South Wales Metro (M) service, and the first phase promises twice the number of services across the network by early 2026, a number of new stations are proposed including Cardiff Parkway, Cardiff East, Newport West, with halts at Somerton and Llanwern in Newport and stations at Magor and Undy in Monmouthshire.
A decision on the full business case is expected in the Autumn.
