A controversial picture of the Deputy Leader of Welsh Labour apparently asleep in the House of Commons has caused huge outrage. One critic declared online: “This is really awful. To think I pay her wages”.
Another, Nick Smith of Newport proclaimed: “What a joke of a woman. It looks ridiculous – no wonder people take the p*ss out of our country”.
The photograph on social media showed the headline-grabbing MP for Swansea East, Carolyn Harris seemingly snoozing through an important political procedure.
However her own website appears to belie the picture. Ms Harris declares: “In Parliament I am an all action campaigner, successfully lowering the stakes on fixed odd betting terminals (FOBTs) and creating a children’s funeral fund for bereaved families”.
Plainly she is not always ‘all action’ in parliament as the picture of her appearing to be asleep on the green benches testifies…
The memories of our Editor, Welshman Phil Parry’s, extraordinary decades long award-winning career in journalism (including exposing things about prominent politicians that they would rather weren’t exposed) as he was gripped by the rare neurological disabling condition Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP), have been released in a major book ‘A Good Story’. Order it now.
Another book, though, has not been published because it was to have included names.
