New academic research has completely debunked so-called ‘information’ about a religious revival this year, and it could have enormous implications for Wales.
A well-known political professor and analyst of opinion polls has said that talk of a huge return to Church-going among younger people, is totally false.
The Bible Society was behind the original findings, which appeared to show that the numbers in the Generation Z group going to Church had doubled between 2018 and 2024.
It has now been admitted that these findings were based on “flawed data”.
Professor John Curtice declared about a more recent survey: “The evidence from the British Social Attitudes survey is clear: there has been no revival in Christian observance in Britain”.
This news, though, may prove to be a disappointment to those who have prayed for a Christian revival, and expected one this year, not just in the traditional Church, but in Evangelical ones too In one Welsh blog a Christian observer proclaimed: “Is it God’s will to send a revival in 2026? We may pray for it. The Welsh revival was a revival of prayer. God listens when his children pray”. A Facebook (FB) post stated: “Revival Now for Wales”.

On Instagram we heard: “JUNE 2026 WALES REVIVAL MISSIONS TOUR
“Date and time is TBD Churches across Wales
“Rev. Tim Mercaldo and Rich Swingle (RichDrama.com) present their original “musical play” entitled “SONGS OF REVIVAL – Hungering After God Himself”…it is a dramatic and musical adaption of the stories and songs of the Welsh Revival (1904-1905) as well as the Asbury Outpourings (’70 and ’23)”.

It could be that these people may have been hoping that Wales would be a centre for a revival in Christianity as it has been famously in the past, before the figures it might have been based on were shown to be utterly false.
This famous historical Welsh revival has been described not as an isolated religious movement, but as very much a part of Britain’s modernisation, and it began in late 1904 under the leadership of Evan Roberts (1878–1951), a 26-year-old former collier and minister in training.
Evangelical churches are becoming more and more popular.
There are 74 Evangelical Churches in Wales as of December 13 2025, and they have embraced with enthusiasm new technology as well as spreading the word through social media.

25 of them have email addresses and 64 possess websites, many of which include contact page URLs for direct outreach.
37 have FB pages, 13 are on Instagram, 14 use X (formerly Twitter), 29 maintain YouTube channels, and over 68 Evangelical Churches have been given excellent ratings by users on Trustpilot or elsewhere.
One organisation says proudly: “The Evangelical Movement of Wales serves churches and Christians, helping them to glorify God, evangelise Wales, and build up believers”.
As well as: “The Bible is the infallible Word of God, our sole authority in all matters of faith and practice. It shows us our need of salvation and reveals Jesus Christ.
- The Cross of Jesus Christ, where He atoned for the sins of the world before being raised from the dead, is the centre and heart of the gospel. Without it we have no power, no hope, and no message for a lost world.
- The nation of Wales has a rich spiritual heritage, but is now in desperate need. It is a missional situation. Every person in Wales needs to hear the gospel and experience the life-changing work of the Spirit. Consequently, we pray fervently for revival, and work passionately with churches for the evangelisation of the nation”.

But plainly, praying “…fervently for revival…” hasn’t worked for others, if the research is based on “flawed data”…
The memories of Phil’s decades long award-winning career in journalism (when research which proved to be FALSE was always clarified) as he was gripped by the rare neurological disease Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP), have been released in a major book ‘A GOOD STORY’. Order it now.
Tomorrow – after describing his early years in journalism at the start of a 42-year career, the importance of experience in the job, how the ‘calls’ to emergency services are central to any newspaper operation, and the vital role of accuracy, our award-winning Editor Phil Parry will show how crime stories are central to any news operation like The Eye’s (although regrettably they can often attract spurious legal actions), and now this is highlighted by revelations that the amount of illegal money which is laundered today could be equivalent to the economy of Germany!
